ADVOCACY
At IIDA Virginia/West Virginia, we advocate for the recognition, advancement, and protection of the interior design profession across our two states. We believe interior designers play an essential role in creating spaces that support the health, safety, and well-being of the people who use them. We work to ensure that interior designers have a voice in the policies and legislation that shape our profession. Through legislative awareness, industry collaboration, and member engagement, we monitor issues that impact interior design practice and licensure in Virginia and West Virginia.
Advocacy is stronger when we do it together.
We connect designers, industry partners, educators, and community leaders to build awareness of the value of interior design and encourage meaningful participation in the decisions that affect our profession. Whether it’s staying informed, contacting legislators, supporting professional regulation, or simply helping others understand what interior designers do, every voice matters.

LEGISLATION
We believe interior design regulation helps protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public while strengthening the profession. IIDA Virginia/West Virginia advocates for the recognition and advancement of the interior design profession and supports legislation that protects the public while strengthening the profession.
Interior design legislation matters.
It helps define the role of qualified interior designers, establishes professional standards, and supports the continued growth and credibility of our profession.
Advocacy is most effective when we work together. By staying informed, engaging with policymakers, and supporting legislation that recognizes the value of interior design, we can help shape a stronger future for our profession and the communities we serve.
Virginia
Virginia currently regulates interior design through a Title Act, allowing qualified professionals to use the title “Certified Interior Designer.” The designation is overseen by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).
Protecting this recognition is important to maintaining professional standards and ensuring qualified interior designers are recognized for their expertise. As Virginia continues to evaluate occupational licensing requirements, IIDA VAWV advocates for preserving the professional recognition and regulation of interior design in the Commonwealth.
West Virginia
West Virginia currently has no state legislation governing the practice of interior design.
